Welcome to the Prion 2009

WELCOME
Welcome from Prof. Theodoros Sklaviadis

Dear Colleagues,

I cordially invite you to join us at the annual Prion 2009 meeting to share the latest developments and ideas in the fascinating field of Prions in a terrific setting. The Congress will be held at Porto Carras in Chalkidiki, Greece, from 23 to 25 September 2009.

Although Prion diseases are not front page news anymore, they continue to be one of the most beautiful biological problems confronting us. We have learned a lot during the last two decades but there are still missing elements concerning the molecular nature of these pathogens, the pathogenesis process and the treatment of the related diseases. This challenge remains open for neuropathologists, neurologists, veterinarians and neuroscientists worldwide. In an era of rapid developments and innovations in neurodegeneration, there is an ever increasing need to regularly update our knowledge, especially to guide our practice on evidence-based practices.

You will find an excellent opportunity for this at the Prion 2009 meeting, which is jointly organized by the group of Prion diseases at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Center for Research and Technology Hellas, together with the Neuroprion Network of Excellence.
The main themes of Prion diseases will be covered in depth, whereas parts of the Program will be dedicated to other major neurodegerative proteinopathies, from which we can extract useful information. Timely issues in these topics will be discussed by renowned experts in plenary sessions, whereas mini-symposia will be held in parallel. There will be a unique opportunity for young investigators to present their research in oral and poster presentations and prizes will be awarded for the best posters.

Assisted by a large International Program Committee, we will be working to provide you with an exciting program. Please join us and share information and ideas with colleagues in beautiful Halkidiki!

With our very best regards,

Theodoros Sklaviadis, Congress Chair and Chair of the Scientific Committee
